Just to be on the safe side

"Look, Daniel. Destiny is usually around the corner. Like a thief, like a hooker, or a lottery vendor: its three most common personifications. But what destiny does not do is home visits. You have to go for it." -The Shadow of the Wind, Carlos Ruiz Zafon
When you're a kid, all you really want to be is a grownup. Because you believe that you will be free as a bird and you can do whatever you want to. As a grownup you find out there are so many obligations and life is pretty expensive. Man, do you long back to those innocent childhood years... I haven't finished it it yet, but i'm currently reading The Shadow of the Wind. It was given to me on my birthday by a colleague last year. What a lovely book it is! So many great quotes and brilliant metaphors. "I was raised among books," writes Daniel Sempere, "making invisible friends in pages that seemed cast from dust and whose smell I carry on my hands to this day." A little mysterious, touching and tragic. I have been enjoying it very much and i can't wait to finish it. Summer has finally found my little country. Dresses and flip flops. The only thing that was missing was a pair of sunglasses. I ordered prescription sunglasses. I had a hard time picking one, because well... i couldn't see a god damn thing. But i brought along my sister who owns like sixty. I'm sure i will be happy with the result. The frames weren't really all that expensive.. but the prescription glasses on the other hand. Damn! But hey, it's a good investment. Fortunately i have to wait two weeks before i can pick them up. I have been enjoying the extra days off very much! Again an upcoming long weekend! Yesterday was another not so very exciting day at work. Piggy Big girl got us lunch and another colleague had bought us ice cream! Oh boy, were we busy... Updates: new design feat. Lizzie Jagger (yup that is Mick's daughter).

Remembrance of the Dead is held annually on May 4 in the Netherlands. It commemorates all civilians and members of the armed forces of the Netherlands who have died in wars or peacekeeping missions since the outbreak of World War II. At 8:00 p.m., two minutes of silence are observed throughout the Netherlands. In many towns, people gather around a monument, listen to speeches, and lay down flowers to remember the dead. One day later, on May 5, Dutch people celebrate the liberation from the German occupation between 1940 and 1945.
Close to where i live, people fought long and hard. There are several monuments that remind me of what those people did for us. The pain and fear is something only our grandparents and great grandparents will remember. And unfortunately only few are still with us. But we can not forget. I really do believe it is important to remember what happened. To tell our children. Who will tell theirs. Heroes. Rest in peace.
Dream on

Angela posted a list of her celebrity crushes as a kid, so i thought i'd do the same. Have a laugh, because i sure has hell did when putting this list together.
JOHNNY DEPP - 21 JUMPSTREET 21 Jump Street was a show about a group of young cops whose youthful appearances enabled them to work undercover in both high schools to catch troubled youths. I totally LOVED that show! Which girl did not fall in love with Officer Tom Hanson played by the one and only mister Depp. My first scrapbook was dedicated to Johnny Depp. JOEY MCINTYRE - NEW KIDS ON THE BLOCK NKOTB enjoyed enormous success in the late 1980s and early 1990s. I was pretty young back then, but my bedroom was covered in posters from this band. Especially little Joey. It recently has been reported that all five original band members will reunite, including a new album and a tour. Although i can still sing along with 'Step by Step', i think i'll pass. KIRK CAMERON/LEONARDO DICAPRIO - GROWING PAINS Do you remember the Seaver family? Troublemaker Mike maybe? He was cute back then!! Kirk is not the same guy anymore though. Religion seems to be a big issue for him. He is currently training Christians in evangelism. This show really made me laugh back then. Even later when they brought in Luke Brower played by Leonardo DiCaprio. So cute! MARK PAUL GOSSELAAR - SAVED BY THE BELL Really back to the 90s. Another show that made me laugh so much. The series follows the exploits of several students at Bayside High School, along with their principle. We will never forget Zach Morris. Mark Paul Gosselaar actually has a Dutch father (that would explain the name). ANTONIE KAMERLING - GOEDE TIJDEN SLECHTE TIJDEN Antonie started his career in 1990 in the first (yes!) Dutch soap opera Good Times, Bad Times. This was a huge thing back then. Blonde Antonie played a troubled guy and we all cared about him. CALLAN MULVEY - HEARTBREAK HIGH Callan played Drazic on this Australian teen drama. I actually had a major crush on this pierced skater boy. I think i have a thing for bad boys (don't we all?) I recently found out Mulvey was injured in a serious car accident in 2003. The mid section of his face collapsed, an incision was made from ear to ear over the top of his scalp, his face "pulled down" and 17 titanium plates were then inserted to repair the fractures to his face and jaw. I mean that's a serious OUCH. He's back in the spotlights again with appearances on Underbelly, Home and Away and McLeod's Daughters. STEPHEN GATELY - BOYZONE This guy still means a lot to me. He represents so many memories. For three years i was a Boyzone fan. My life was so different back then. Their music meant so much to me. Going to concert, working on scrapbooks. It all kept me going. My whole room was covered in Boyzone crap. He would be the right man for me. After the band split Stephen came out of the closet. Gay and in love. He started dating an internet businessman and they held a commitment ceremony in a wedding chapel whilst on holiday in Las Vegas in 2003. On 19 March 2006 Stephen entered into a civil partnership with his man in a ceremony in London. For some reason this makes me smile! GREG SERANO - DANGEROUS MINDS Dangerous Minds the short lived spin-off TV series about a Highschool attended by students from the ghetto. Greg played Gusmaro Lopez. I remember watching the same kissing scene over and over again at my friend's house. We weren't drooling. I swear we weren't! He was arrested on July 13, 2006 on charges of battery against a household member, false imprisonment and obstructing an officer. The charges were later dropped. But i think he's not that cute anymore. GEORGE CLOONEY - ER Man i wouldn't mind running into Doctor Ross at a hospital! Those puppy eyes and shaking head... Sigh. I loved his story lines. When he quit before being fired by County for his involvement in a patient's death, i too quit watching. A self-destructive man, alcoholic maybe even. I'm glad he sorted it all out and found nurse Hathaway back in the end. KIEFER SUTHERLAND - 24 Bad boys and self-destructive men you say? Here's another one. Might not come as a surprise, but i felt he had to be on here. My latest crush i think. But ever since Day 1 of 24 aired i loved him! Jack, you can cry on my shoulder. It's going to be okay. But you better hurry because i can't wait for Day 7 to start!
